“Astride of the westward road leading from Jerusalem to Nablus, Gen Allenby’s forces advanced a maximum depth northward of three thousand yards on a 12 mile front Saturday and Sunday, it was officially announced today. The enemy offered little opposition.” And: “Nablus, 33 miles north of Jerusalem is a city of about 25,000 population. It is the ancient center of the Samaritans and in biblical times was called Shechem.”

The headline says the city was captured. The story says the line moved three thousand yards toward a city thirty-three miles away. The same paragraph that overstates the advance gives Nablus a population of twenty-five thousand.
