Palestine, Truly Home Of the Jews, Should Be Kept From Turks

Transcribed from the clipping
LONDON, Jan. 5.—A shining oasis in the desert of British unpreparedness for war was the fact—hitherto, I believe unpublished—that a few weeks before the war broke out a British survey was completed of the hitherto uninappd district between the Egyptian survey and the old Palestine Exploration Fund Survey of Palestine. The maps were finished but not printed.
The result is that in the present brilliant campaign Gen. Allenby has perfect maps of every wady and spring of the desert between Palestine and Egypt, while those in the hands of the Turko-German forces are relatively incomplete and inaccurate. In this work of Palestine exploration and survey Dr. Masterman of Jerusalem took a continuous and active part.
His knowledge of the country’s history, present condition, and of the amazing blend of races that inhabit Palestine in unsurpassed.
How this transcription was made
Read from the scan by a machine looking at the image of the page, not by optical character recognition and not by a person. The clipping carries no masthead or date line, so its date and newspaper rest on the record it arrived with, not on anything visible in the scan.

This record is part of Covering Palestine, an archive of American newspaper clippings about Palestinians, 1724 to 2023. Researched and assembled by Maria Robles.
The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.
