FUTURE OF PALESTINE.

“The Jewish immigrants in Palestine are, of course, more progressive than the indigenous Arabs, but neither this circumstance nor the fact that the ancestors of the Jews were there before the Arabs can excuse a policy of injustice. The Arabs, who constitute by far the greater part of the population, are united in seeking a greater degree of self-government, and they naturally resent the intrusion of a body of aggressive and unsympathetic aliens… The large sales of land which have taken place since 1921 have created a class of Arabs who are dangerous because they are landless and discontented.”

On the Shaw commission report into the August 1929 disturbances. The condescension and the recognition are welded into one clause, and then the sentence refuses to let the condescension do any work.
