One Associated Press story of 27 October 1933, printed in four American papers. The copy is identical in all four; only the headline changes. Two of the four delete the police from the headline, and one paper's second line turns a protest against an immigration increase into a demonstration ‘Against Jews.’ A later take, and the only printing that supplies a number — eleven or more. Its headline has no subject at all: a bare verb and the dead, with the police who fired absent from the sentence.
