Jerusalem, Oct. 19 (AP).—A terrific bomb explosion in the Shimon Hazadik oriental Jewish quarter Tuesday night shattered the brief lull in Palestine disorders. No casualties were reported. Premature explosion apparently saved many lives. Another outbreak occurred when a fusillade of shots was fired at a Jewish bus traveling from Haifa to Jerusalem.

Stern military punishment for trouble makers previously had restored a measure of peace Tuesday night to strife-torn Palestine.

Curfew Is Lifted Curfew, which had been in effect four days, was lifted in Jerusalem after Tuesday’s major disorders were limited to an unsuccessful attempt to blow up a Haifa-Egypt train and a brief fusillade directed at a Jewish colony on Shephelah plain.

British troops who blew up three Arab houses in Daharia, near Hebron, in reprisal for an Arab raid Monday on a police arsenal marked more houses for demolition—the number to correspond to the number of rifles taken. They promised to spare one house for each rifle returned.

Fear Future Trouble A portent of further trouble was seen in reports from Syria that a new Arab higher committee was being formed by refugees from Palestine, together with Arabs from Iraq, Egypt, Syria and Lebanon to replace the group outlawed here.

(The Arab higher committee was declared illegal by the British authorities October 1, and leaders exiled in a drive designed to crush terrorism in Palestine.) French police were watching Amin El Husseini, grand mufti of Jerusalem, who fled Jerusalem and is in Beirut.
