Bombing Shatters Palestine's Peace

Jerusalem, Oct. 19.—(AP)—A terrific bomb explosion in the Shimon Hazadik Oriental Jewish quarter tonight shattered the brief lull in Palestine disorders. No casualties were reported but blood spattered on the street was taken by police as indication that the bomber had been wounded and fled. Premature explosion apparently saved many lives.

Another outbreak occurred when a fusillade of shots was fired at a Jewish bus traveling from Haifa to Jerusalem. Stern military punishment for trouble-makers previously had restored a measure of peace tonight to strife-torn Palestine. Curfew Lifted.

The curfew which had been in effect for four days was lifted in Jerusalem after today’s major disorders were limited to an unsuccessful attempt to blow up a Haifa-Egypt train and a brief fusillade directed at a Jewish colony on Shep Helah plain.

British troops blew up three Arab houses in Daharia, near Hebron, in reprisal for an Arab raid yesterday on a police arsenal in which rifles were stolen. Dogs were utilized in pressing the search for the raiders and the military authorities marked more houses for demolition—the number to correspond to the number of rifles taken.

They promised to spare one house for each rifle returned. The village was surrounded at dawn and police entered to demand surrender of the arms. When they received no response, a search was made. As this proved fruitless, the houses were mined and blown up.
