Zionists Split On Issue Of Palestine Partition

“Geneva, Thursday, Aug. 12.—(UP)—A split in the ranks of the World Zionist organization over the Palestine question was threatened today by the new Zionist organization. The organization attacked the resolution passed yesterday by the Zionist congress at Zurich as a betrayal of the Jewish National Home ideal.
The resolution, passed 300 to 158, empowered the executive committee to negotiate the terms for creation of a Jewish state in Palestine with possible partition of the Holy Land.
The new Zionist organization claims as many members as the Jewish agency and is led by Wladimir Jabotinsky, anti-socialist Russian Jew who won fame during the World War for his part in creating the Jewish legion to aid Great Britain. The movement strongly contests the Zionist congress’ claim that it is the official representative body of world Jewry.
In a statement issued here the organization denounced the resolution and promised to begin a worldwide campaign to disavow the action of the congress.
The statement said in part: ‘Instead of rejecting the principle of partition, it (the resolution) only rejects the “scheme presented by the British royal commission” entrusts further negotiation to leaders who openly condemn the mandate as unworkable and openly support partition, and the action of the negotiations will inevitably tend to place the eventual “newly elected congress”, should it ever materialize, before a situation tantamount to a fait accompli.’”
