‘Down With U.S.’ Cry Arab Mobs

“JERUSALEM, Dec. 1 — (INS) — New anti-American violence flared in the Syrian city of Beirut today and another Jew was shot to death in Lebanon, bringing to 19 the fatality toll in the first stages of the Arab-Jewish ‘holy war.’ The United Nations’ decision to partition Palestine touched off the new Beirut demonstrations. An estimated 10 thousand Arab students marched through the streets and stoned the United States Information office and the French legation. The demonstrators carried Arab flags and posters which read: ‘Fire and steel is the only language the Zionists understand.’”
