Israeli denies torture charges

Transcribed from the clipping
“Israeli denies torture charges. An Israeli delegate to the U.N. Decade for Women Conference likened Palestinian charges of Israeli torture to the Nazi ‘big lie’ technique and said the only Palestinian women in jail are those convicted of terrorist acts.
Israeli delegate Tamar Eshel began her angry refutation yesterday after May Sadegh, the leader of the Palestinian delegation, charged at a news conference that Palestinian women were tortured and sexually abused in Israeli jails. Ms.
Eshel said the allegations were ‘the most preposterous accusations which only remind me of the (Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph) Goebbels technique of the big lie — just keep repeating it and some are sure to begin believing it.’”
Context added by this archive
The charge is reported only as the thing being denied: the Palestinian delegation leader is named and her accusation summarized in one clause, and the rest of the item is the refutation.

This record is part of Covering Palestine, an archive of American newspaper clippings about Palestinians, 1724 to 2023. Researched and assembled by Maria Robles.
The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.
