Zionism Equated With Racism By Some Women at U.N. Conference

“COPENHAGEN, Denmark (UPI) — An Indian delegation today presented a motion to the U.N. Decade For Women Conference equating Zionism with racism in the second such resolution in two days. The Indian delegation presented a motion calling for the elimination of ‘imperialism, colonialism, neo-colonialism, Zionism, racism, racial discrimination, apartheid, hedgemonism and foreign occupation’ to be included in the conference’s final resolution. The Cubans proposed a similiar amendment Thursday specifically linking Zionism with racism. However, the Cubans withdrew their motion today in favor of the Indian one. The Israeli delegation has vowed to leave the meeting and return home if the resolution is passed, conference sources said. The Indian proposal was supported by the so-called Group of 77 nations… The Cubans allowed the Indians to take over their amendment because the Indians chair the Group of 77 and would be better able to get all group member nations to vote for the amendment… The agenda for the assembly sets aside two days, July 24 and 25, to take up the question of Palestinian women. Walkouts by Palestinian delegates and their supporters, prompted by speeches by Egyptian first lady Jihan Sadat and an Israeli representative, have already disrupted the conference twice.”

Five days before this, the Associated Press had moved a photograph of Leila Khaled arriving in Copenhagen for this same conference, captioned terrorist now a delegate. Two days of the agenda were set aside for the question of Palestinian women. Five years later, at the conference that closed the same Decade in Nairobi, Israel refused travel permits to five Palestinian women invited to attend and the formula nearly collapsed the final document. The paper spells hedgemonism and similiar.
