Christians in Israel protest settlement
Jerusalem

Transcribed from the clipping
“JERUSALEM — The leaders of the Christian churches in Israel announced Monday that they would close all their shrines for a day to protest the Israeli government’s support for a new Jewish settlement in the Christian quarter of the Old City.
The announcement was made in an angry statement signed by the 10 heads of the Latin, Greek, Armenian, Coptic, Lutheran, Anglican, Ethiopian and other Christian demoninations with offices or sites in Israel. It comes one day after the government acknowledged that it had secretly donated $1.8 million in public funds so 150 Jewish settlers could lease the St.
John’s Hospice.”
Context added by this archive
The Palestinians in this story are Christian, and the objection is theirs. “Demoninations” is the paper’s.
