Transcribed from the clipping

Jerusalem, Aug. 27.—(AP)—Ten Arabs were killed by the Israeli Army in a large scale mopping up operation that cleaned marauding Bedouin tribesmen out of the southern Negev Desert, it was reliably reported here today. The operation near the Egyptian border was the third one of the month.

In previous actions Israeli soldiers broke up a gang of smugglers, killing 20 of them. Earlier armed Jordanian shepherds and their flocks were driven out of the territory and 1,200 of their sheep confiscated.

How this transcription was made

Read from the scan by a machine looking at the image of the page, not by optical character recognition and not by a person. The clipping carries no masthead or date line, so its date and newspaper rest on the record it arrived with, not on anything visible in the scan.

Context added by this archive

Date check: No masthead or page date line is on this clipping — it is a trimmed single-column story. The dateline reads “Jerusalem, Aug. 27.”, consistent with publication on 1950-08-28, but the year and the paper's name cannot be confirmed from the scan.

This record is part of Covering Palestine, an archive of American newspaper clippings about Palestinians, 1724 to 2023. Researched and assembled by Maria Robles.

The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.
