“TEL AVIV, Israel—(AP)—The Israeli custodian of abandoned property is turning former Arab properties over to new immigrants. A government bulletin said 83,000 rooms and 7,800 shops, offices and workshops which once belonged to Arabs are being used for the housing of 170,000 newly arrived Jews and former soldiers. The custodian also has charge of nearly 900,000 acres of land which Arabs once occupied and farmed. About 62,500 acres are now being used for plantations. Most of the Arabs who once held all of these properties are now war refugees in the Egyptian-held Gaza coastal strip or elsewhere in the Middle East.”
