Transcribed from the clipping

The first of the families crossing the frontier from Lebanon aided by members of the Red Mogen Dovid, Israel’s equivalent to the American Red Cross. The Arabs are going back to their old homes under an agreement recently signed by the Governments of Israel and Lebanon.

How this transcription was made

Read from the scan at 1.8x to 10x by a machine looking at the image of the page, not by OCR and not by a person. A photograph with a caption and no article, so there is no excerpt. The clipping carries no masthead, folio, dateline or credit line, so BOTH its date and its newspaper rest on the slide label alone; the date is assigned by elimination against the other image on its slide, which is a known duplicate of an August 1947 record. The only internal dating evidence is the caption's reference to an agreement 'recently signed' by Israel and Lebanon. 'Red Mogen Dovid' is the paper's transliteration and is kept as printed. None of the refugees photographed crossing the frontier is named.

This record is part of Covering Palestine, an archive of American newspaper clippings about Palestinians, 1724 to 2023. Researched and assembled by Maria Robles.

The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.

Something wrong here, or something you know about this clipping? The archive is still being built and corrections are wanted: maria@rozumstudio.com, quoting CP-1950-019.
