“A large number of detainees also reported being subjected to ‘shabeh,’ a punishment reportedly commonly used by Israeli interrogators, which involves tying the prisoner for long stretches in an excruciating position.”

The only clipping in the archive that names shabeh. The monitor is Bassem Eid, and the detainees he is reporting on were held by the Palestinian Authority as well as by Israel: of the cases he studied, all began with beatings and twenty-six involved beatings with weapons or batons. His news conference coincided with a Palestinian death in Palestinian custody.
