“About 50 people walked up and down Sixth Street Friday afternoon, carrying signs and protesting the U.S. invasion of Iraq. The group gathered in front of the Islamic Center of Sioux Falls to let the community know they oppose the war.
‘We condemned the killing of innocent people on September 11 (2001), now we condemn the killing of innocent people in Iraq,’ said Mohamed Sahrif, director of the Islamic Center. Among messages on protesters’ signs: ‘Sharon Is the Terrorist,’ ‘Genocide in Palestine,’ ‘Work for Peace,’ ‘S.D.
Values Justice,’ and ‘Stop the War.’ Mustapha Dibba said the U.S. invasion disheartened him. ‘This is the worse experience in my life,’ said Dibba. ‘We must not forget our history. We were all guided here because of suppression.’ Azeem Muhammad called the war unjust. ‘It needs to come to a stop,’ Muhammad said.
‘If he (Saddam) had any weapons of mass destruction, it was because the Americans sold it to him.’ John Koch, a spokesman for the Islamic Center, said most people expected the bombing. Many think both President Bush and Saddam…”
