Transcribed from the clipping
We will wield disproportionate power against every village from which shots are fired on Israel, and cause immense damage and destruction ... This is a plan that has already been authorized. – Israeli Maj. Gen. Gadi Eisenkot, October 2008 Intentionally launching a disproportionate attack is a war crime.
(ICC Statute, Article 8 (2) (b) (iv)) – Amnesty International Israel's military leaders weren't joking. About 100 Palestinians were killed for every Israeli in the recent turkey shoot in Gaza, better than half of them civilians and many of the rest having only a tenuous connection to Hamas.
The Bush administration did everything it could to stymie any ceasefire and extend the slaughter as long as possible, much like it did in the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah.

Context added by this archive
This is an opinion column with a mugshot of the author, not staff news copy. The column opens with two epigraphs — Eisenkot and Amnesty International — before the first line of body text. Maria's row lists this clipping second but the images are in the reverse order: s003_1 is the Los Angeles Times and s003_2 is The Forum.
