“JERUSALEM — Assailants killed three people with an axe and a knife in an Israeli town near Tel Aviv on Thursday, police said, in the latest of a series of deadly attacks that have raised fears of wider conflict… Israeli forces launched a manhunt… The attack took place in Elad, a religious Jewish town near Tel Aviv, on the eve of Israel’s Independence Day… Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist group that rules Gaza, praised the attack but did not claim responsibility…”
