“JERUSALEM — An Israeli planning committee has approved a controversial development plan for a tourism and archaeological site in a Palestinian neighborhood of East Jerusalem, in an area at the heart of the contest over the city’s sovereignty… The plan drew criticism from Palestinians and from Israeli rights groups who say it is part of a broader effort to bolster Israeli control over East Jerusalem, which Israel captured in 1967 and annexed in a move not recognized by most of the international community, though most countries still consider it occupied territory…”
