How this transcription was made

The scan is the headline block; there is no body text on it to transcribe. The page was corrected against the New York Times’s own article index, which places this piece on page 27 of that day’s paper. The record previously carried page 1.

Context added by this archive

July 1921, in the New York Times, and the second line contains the word in the paper’s own voice: what the Moslems and Christians are bitterly opposed to is colonization by Zionist immigrants. Not settlement, not immigration — colonization. The third line says the piece gave all sides their views, which in 1921 included that one.

Two months earlier the same paper had reported them forming an association to protect their rights (CP-1921-001).

This record is part of Covering Palestine, an archive of American newspaper clippings about Palestinians, 1724 to 2023. Researched and assembled by Maria Robles.

The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.

Something wrong here, or something you know about this clipping? The archive is still being built and corrections are wanted: maria@rozumstudio.com, quoting CP-1921-003.
