JERUSALEM, April 12 (Jewish Telegraph Agency).—The old quarrels over water wells in the times of Abraham, as recorded in the Bible, were recalled by a serious quarrel which broke out today between two Arab tribes in the neighborhood of the village of Valadzi.

In a dispute over the rights to the only water well in the vicinity the two tribes engaged in a battle which resulted in the death of one person and the wounding of eight others. The authorities have started an investigation and sent a force of police into the district.

How this transcription was made

Transcribed from the slide scan by a reader working off magnified crops, not by optical character recognition. The clipping is a complete boxed item carrying no masthead, no folio, no byline and no credit line naming the newspaper. The day and month come from the printed dateline, “JERUSALEM, April 12”, and the item is credited on the page to the Jewish Telegraph Agency. BOTH THE YEAR AND THE NEWSPAPER REST ON THE HAND-TYPED SLIDE LABEL: nothing printed on this clipping identifies either. It is the thinnest-evidenced record in this block.

This record is part of Covering Palestine, an archive of American newspaper clippings about Palestinians, 1724 to 2023. Researched and assembled by Maria Robles.

The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.

Something wrong here, or something you know about this clipping? The archive is still being built and corrections are wanted: maria@rozumstudio.com, quoting CP-1924-006.
