“She pictured the happy, normal life in many of the Jewish colonies in Palestine, saying that one got a wrong idea of the country by a tour of Jerusalem for the real life of the country now lies in these colonies… In Jerusalem, Mrs. Gais said, the Sabbath is celebrated on three days each week: Fridays, by the Moslems; Saturdays, by the Jews, and Sundays, by the Christians.”

A woman who had spent four months in the country, speaking on “conditions in general in the Holy Land” — and the country she describes has no Arabs in it. Nothing is hostile and nothing is false. Nine-tenths of the population appears twice in eight hundred words: as a calendar note and as a clause about who the hospital treats.
