“But by far the greatest difficulty in the way of Zionism is the attitude of the indigenous Arab, who today outnumbers the Jew six or seven to one. He has occupied the land for centuries, and claims it as his ‘fatherland.’ To remove a large part of this Arab population to make way for incoming Jews from all nations, will severely tax the statesmanship of Zionism…”

A sermon by Dr. R. H. Crossfield at the First Christian Church, reported the following morning. The pastor is sympathetic to Zionism and the headline says Marvelous Progress; he is doing arithmetic out loud. Population transfer is named as a plain operational problem, in an Alabama newspaper, in 1928.
