Transcribed from the clipping

Jerusalem, May 25 (U.P.)—Guerilla warfare, the result of long-lasting Jewish-Arab disorders, was reported today from areas all over Palestine.

How this transcription was made

Read from the scan at 2x; the excerpt is the entire clipping, a headline and one sentence between rules. The clipping carries no masthead, no folio and no page number, so the newspaper rests on the hand-typed slide label alone. The day is supported without being printed: the dateline is “Jerusalem, May 25 (U.P.)” and the sentence says the warfare was reported “today”. The label gives the same day for the printing, which is possible rather than odd, since Jerusalem morning is the American small hours and an afternoon paper can carry a same-day Jerusalem dateline. THE YEAR IS NOT PRINTED ANYWHERE ON THE CLIPPING and 1936 is the label’s. THE NEWSPAPER IS NEW TO THIS ARCHIVE: no record under this title existed before, the form of the name including its definite article comes from the hand-typed label, and no masthead is available to settle it. “Guerilla” with one r, in the headline and in the body, is as printed.

This record is part of Covering Palestine, an archive of American newspaper clippings about Palestinians, 1724 to 2023. Researched and assembled by Maria Robles.

The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.

Something wrong here, or something you know about this clipping? The archive is still being built and corrections are wanted: maria@rozumstudio.com, quoting CP-1936-024.
