Transcribed from the clipping

“TEL AVIV (JTA).—A conference of the Arab and Jewish mayors of the four leading cities in Palestine was held here this week to discuss means of checking profiteering and hoarding which have caused the prices of essential commodities to rise to unprecedented heights.

Present at the conference, which was presided over by Mayor Rokach of Tel Aviv, were Mustapha Bey Khalidi, Mayor of Jerusalem; Shabbatai Levi, Mayor of Haifa and Omar II Bitar, Mayor of Jaffa… The conference decided to form a permanent committee and to present a joint declaration to the High Commissioner outlining its proposals.”

Context added by this archive

The mayors of Jerusalem and Jaffa are Palestinian, are named, and are forming a joint committee. It runs as a story about the price of flour.

This record is part of Covering Palestine, an archive of American newspaper clippings about Palestinians, 1724 to 2023. Researched and assembled by Maria Robles.

The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.

Something wrong here, or something you know about this clipping? The archive is still being built and corrections are wanted: maria@rozumstudio.com, quoting CP-1941-008.
