Impasse in Palestine LIFELINE TO A PROMISED LAND. By Hirschmann. New Ira A. 214 pp. York: Vanguard Press./ $2.75. THE RAPE OF PALESTINE. By William 8. Ziff. 118 pp. New York: Argus Books, Inc. $I. By ALFRED WERNER Pa smaruary, awo the Struma, a small unacaworthy tub, sank in the Bosporus; 767 men, women and children, Jewish refugees from Nazi terror, were drowned.

The Turks had not allowed them to land in Istanbul because the British had refused them entry in Palestine. "If the Struma had been an enemy ship," a British Laborite then charged, "the Ger- man, Italian, or Japanese passen- gers would hare been interned." The plight of the innocent vic- tims of Hitlerism deeply stirred American Mr. Hirschmann, an business man.

A modern "Scarlet Pimpernel," ne decided to go as a private citizen to Turkey in or- der to see what he could do for refugees hopelessly stranded in southeastern Europe.
