How Abiding Are Palestinian Jews?

“In these days of turmoil in Palestine when careless press and radio commentators, as well as government officials who should know better, picture Palestinian Jews as law-breakers and gangsters, it is constructive to look at the record of crime. The Court of Criminal Assize tried 49 cases of murder involving 99 persons during the whole of last year.
Twenty-three men were convicted — seven receiving the death sentence and 16 a prison sentence. Of this number, 20 were Moslems and three were Christians. No Jews. Of the 136 persons charged with carrying arms for unlawful purposes, 103 were convicted by the District Courts—96 Moslems, 4 Jews, 3 Christians.
The record before the Magistrates’ Courts showed 233 Moslems were convicted for this crime, 10 Jews and 20 Christians.
These figures become all the more significant when it is recalled that the Jews in Palestine have come from practically every country in the world and have brought with them different standards and viewpoints which might very readily serve as a basis for violent disagreements, even murder.
Furthermore, quite a few of them have been driven desperate by the treatment accorded them in Europe and by their financial condition. That they have succeeded in living in harmony speaks well for the future. … from American Jewish Outlook.”
