Arab Leader Predicts Renewed Violence in Palestine

“JERUSALEM, Dec. 18 (AP)—The violence of Arab-Jewish strife waned further in the Holy Land today, but Arab leaders said ‘it is a lull that may end at any moment.’… The Associated Press count of dead in Palestine was brought to 266 since the U. N. vote on November 29 for Palestine’s partition.
It was Hussein Khaldi, Arab High Executive Secretary, who described this calmest day since the U. N. vote as a ‘lull that may end at any moment’… Some 2000 Palestine Arab families were reported housed in temporary camps just inside the Lebanese border after having evacuated a ‘danger zone’ close to Jewish areas.”
Alongside it, under the heading “Jewish Military Officer Says the Arabs Will Lose”: “In the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine, ‘we may suffer casualties of a thousand or two, but the Arabs will not be able to stop us,’ Major Ezekiel Saharov, security officer of the official Jewish Agency, declared in an interview here today.”
