JERUSALEM, Dec. 20 — Haganah, unofficial Palestine defense force, carried out a three-hour attack on the Arab village of Qazaza early today. Casualties were one Arab killed and two wounded, according to the police, but a Haganah source said tonight that the Arab losses had been “much greater.”

According to a Jewish source, the attackers told some of the villagers that the raid was in reprisal for attacks on Jewish traffic on the main road from Masmieh to Latrun, half a mile away. The house of the village Mukhtar [headman] was dynamited “with people inside,” the Jewish informant said.

Just after midnight the attackers opened fire from the outskirts of the Arab village of Qazaza near the Jewish town of Rehovoth in the Lydda district. They also fired on a Bedouin camp near by. Though the firing continued intermittently for three hours and grenades were thrown into the village, only one young Arab was killed.

One man was seriously wounded and one woman slightly wounded, the police said. An effort to follow the attackers’ tracks failed.
