“Although the partition of Palestine by the United Nations general assembly reflects the two-thirds majority of world thought on the troublesome Middle East, there is danger in the violent resistance of the Arab minority that the decision will precipitate serious upheavals in the Moslem world… It becomes the responsibility of the Jews in Palestine to liberalize their own policies of employment, religious tolerance and social practice. Political autonomy and economic prosperity can continue for any state only when that state is neighborly and eager to improve relationships with other sovereign powers.”
