Bernard A. Rosenblatt, who made a test case of Palestine regulations, denying to Jews the right to buy land in a large section of that country, said yesterday in a report to the directors of the Palestine Foundation Fund that the case was now a matter for the State Department. After purchasing land near Haifa Mr.

Rosenblatt brought suit to establish ownership, but his petition was denied by the Supreme Court of Palestine. It is on appeal before the Privy Council in London. Mr. Rosenblatt had contended that rejection of his petition was a violation of his rights as an American citizen under the Anglo-American Convention of 1924.

“It is now a matter for our State Department,” he said, “to insist that treaties solemnly entered into shall not be violated by an interested party who still reaps the benefits from the treaty while refusing to abide by its terms.”

How this transcription was made

Read from the scan by a machine looking at the image of the page, not by optical character recognition and not by a person. The clipping carries no masthead or date line, so its date and newspaper rest on the record it arrived with, not on anything visible in the scan.

Date check: No masthead or page date line on the clipping. The story has no dateline and refers to a report made “yesterday,” so the 1947-07-02 date cannot be confirmed from the image.

This record is part of Covering Palestine, an archive of American newspaper clippings about Palestinians, 1724 to 2023. Researched and assembled by Maria Robles.

The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.
