JERUSALEM, Nov. 30.—A wave of Arab violence took 17 lives in Damascus and Palestine today and Arab leaders warned it was the prelude to Jewish “massacres” in a “Holy War” to prevent partition of the Holy Land.

Syrian Arabs attacked the American and French legations in Damascus, tore down the American flag and burned three automobiles outside the American building in protest against the United Nations decision to split Palestine.

The Soviet-Syrian cultural center in Damascus also was wrecked by the marauding Arabs, the Belgian bank was attacked and in a gun battle four Syrian Communists and three of the Arab attackers were killed. Ten Jews were killed by Arabs in Palestine.
