BEIRUT, Lebanon, July 25, (AP) — A parcel exploded today in the Beirut office of a leftist newspaper, Al Hadaf, seriously injuring the new spokesman for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the police said. The spokesman, Bassam Abu Sharif, who is 29 years old, suffered severe injuries in the face and chest, the police said.

The bomb reportedly exploded while he was opening the package. Mr. Abu Sharif became the spokesman for the Marxist guerilla group after Ghassan Kanafani, the former spokesman and editor of Al Hadaf, was killed by a bomb explosion in Beirut on July 8 when he started his car.

Al Hadaf, a weekly, is the organ of the Popular Front, which said it sponsored the three Japanese terrorists who killed 24 persons and wounded 74 persons, two of whom later died, in the Tel Aviv airport massacre on May 30. A Palestinian writer and a Lebanese bank employe were injured in booby-trap explosions in Beirut last week.

Five other parcels with bombs addressed to Palestinian guerilla leaders are reported to have been intercepted and defused.
