PARIS (UPI) — French police chiefs met today to work out special security measures, including preventing street disturbances, during Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir's scheduled visit here this weekend. Left-wing and pro-Palestinian organizations said they will stage protest demonstrations Friday and Saturday when Mrs.

Meir and other foreign leaders will attend a meeting of the Socialist International. Jewish student groups said they plan to hold counter demonstrations to show support for Mrs. Meir. Police officials said they planned exceptional precautions to insure Mrs. Meir's safety.

The anti-Israeli demonstrations were called following the death Tuesday of Mahmud Hamshari, head of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) office in Paris. Hamshari died from wounds he received in a Dec. 8 explosion of a powerful bomb planted in his apartment by unidentified attackers. Arab diplomats and pro-Palestinian groups blamed the explosion on “Zionists”.

Hamshari died a few hours after a powerful terrorist bomb wrecked the offices of the Jewish Agency on Rue Fortuny. The explosion shattered windows throughout the street but the offices were empty during the pre-dawn blast.

Leaders of various Jewish organizations said Paris police had refused to assure protection of the Agency's offices on the ground it was a private charity organization and that protection was granted only to official missions. Police security was tightened around all Israeli diplomatic and consular offices today. Mrs.

Meir's travel plans are expected to be kept secret, police sources said. The Israeli premier and other foreign socialist leaders maintained their travel plans although President Georges Pompidou at his news conference Tuesday, condemned their meeting in Paris as a open intrusion into French domestic affairs.

Pompidou said the meeting could be seen as showing support for the opposition French socialists who are engaged in a bitter campaign battle with the Gaullists for the March parliamentary election.

How this transcription was made

Masthead not readable on the scan. The label on the slide read: UNCONFIRMED — Maria's label says Anchorage Times; the scan carries a running date line but no paper name — Transcribed exactly as set, in three lines. It is grammatically incomplete as printed — protection for Israeli what — and no fourth line is present on the scan; body text begins immediately below. Either a word was dropped in the composing room or a line was lost when the clipping was cut. Not reconstructed.
