BEIRUT, Lebanon, Tuesday, April 10 — Israeli commandos attacked Arab guerrilla bases early today in Beirut and Saida, on the Lebanese coast. The raids, carried out in darkness, followed a Palestinian commando attack yesterday on Israelis in Cyprus.
The Ministry of Defense announced in a preliminary casualty report that two Lebanese security agents and nine civilians had been killed, while an army officer and nine security agents were wounded. Two prominent leaders of the Palestinian Fatah guerrilla organization were killed in the attack at Beirut.
The raiders blew up the apartment of Mohammed Yussef Najjar, also known as Abu Yussef, a member of the executive committee of Fatah. Mr. Najjar and his wife were both killed. The Israelis reportedly killed several guards and kidnapped a son of the Fatah leader.
They also killed Kemal Adwan, another Fatah leader, and blew up the headquarters of the Democratic Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a small but militant commando group led by Nayef Hawatmeh, a Marxist.
There were unconfirmed reports that the Israelis also killed Kemal Nasser, spokesman of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, who lived in an apartment in the same building with Mr. Najjar.
The attacks were carried out in the center of the Lebanese capital in the area of the Palestinian refugee camp called Sabra, which is where most of the commando organizations have their headquarters.

Masthead not readable on the scan. The label on the slide read: [no masthead on clipping; typography and the “Special to The New York Times” credit line are The New York Times] — Single scan of the front-page columns; read in three crops at 6x–7x. The jump (“Continued on Page 6, Column 1” / “Continued on Page 7, Column 1”) was not supplied. — No masthead or running head survives on this cut. The dateline reads “BEIRUT, Lebanon, Tuesday, April 10” — the Times uses a weekday in the dateline only for a same-morning filing, so this is the paper of Tuesday 10 April 1973. 10 April 1973 was a Tuesday. The date is confirmed from the dateline, not from a masthead.
