JERUSALEM July 10 — Five Palestinians died today after clashes in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip, and the army disclosed tonight that an armed Palestinian was shot dead by troops near Hebron last week. The day’s death toll was unusually high, and brought the total number of Palestinians killed by Israelis since the Arab uprising began to at least 488.

In Ramallah, Yasir Mohammed Abu Ghosh, 17 years old, was shot four times in the back and head with a pistol by Israelis wearing civilian clothes, probably security policemen, witnesses to the incident said. They said rioting had erupted in the city immediately after an army patrol removed Mr. Abu Ghosh’s body, leading soldiers to fire tear gas and bullets.

Attacks on Collaborators Cited A military spokesman said Mr. Abu Ghosh had been shot and killed by “security forces.” He said the youth was suspected “of attacking people accused of collaborating with the Government and of being a senior coordinator of violent activities, including throwing petrol bombs.”

A 20-year-old Palestinian was wounded in the demonstrations after Mr. Abu Ghosh’s death. The army said that the man later died, and that incident was under investigation. The man’s name was not available. Palestinians identified a third man killed today as Mahiyub Musa, 18.

They said he was shot in the head during a predawn raid on the village of Khirbet Abu Falah, near Ramallah. The army spokesman confirmed the death. In the Gaza Strip, Palestinians said troops shot Rami al-Tareefi, 15, through the heart in a clash in the Bureij refugee settlement. The army said it was investigating the report.

Youth Shot Saturday Dies Another Gaza resident, 14-year-old Ayman Alla, died in an Israeli hospital today after he was shot in the heart in a demonstration on Saturday, Arabs said. The army confirmed the death. The army today also disclosed that “an armed terrorist was killed at the end of last week in the Mount Hebron area.”

The military spokesman said no other details of the episode were being made public.

How this transcription was made

Transcribed from the slide scan by a reader working off magnified crops, not by optical character recognition. The newspaper is printed on the clipping, in the credit line “Special to The New York Times” beneath the headline rule. There is no masthead, no folio and no printed year. The day and month come from the printed dateline, which is set without the paper’s usual comma as “JERUSALEM July 10”; the YEAR comes from the slide label, corroborated but not fixed by a figure in the text, the running toll of “at least 488” Palestinians killed since the uprising began, which fits mid-1989. Four of the five Palestinians killed are named here, and in every case but one the paper attributes the name to Palestinians while the army only confirms the death.
