“JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli officials on Sunday said they foiled a recent attempt by Palestinian militants to assassinate Prime Minister Ehud Olmert during a trip to the West Bank and warned the plot could hurt prospects for an upcoming U.S.-hosted Mideast peace conference… ‘It clouds the atmosphere of the conference,’ Olmert said before leaving on a trip to France… Diskin did not say how close the militants were to carrying out the plot, and it was not clear why Olmert was allowed to proceed on his trip if there was a threat to his life.… ‘The interrogation did not reveal according to our security services anything that was imminently dangerous,’ [Salam Fayyad] said… ‘This is one more attempt to put obstacles in the way to the fall conference,’ said Nabil Abu Rdeneh, a spokesman for Abbas.”

He is named, he is called an artist, his work is the only picture on the page, and he is in no sentence of the story. Ten weeks later another American paper ran a second photograph of the same man and the same wall, and did the same thing. The photographer here is Mohammed Ballas, who also shot the 2004 story about Palestinian women winning council seats.
