“Biblical Claim. CONTRARY TO the ideas expressed in a recent letter, Israel has neither a just nor an historic claim to Palestine. Her claim is biblical and in a world in which two-thirds of its inhabitants do not recognize the Bible as divinely inspired nor as historical fact, this claim can hardly be considered legitimate.
True, there were Hebrews in Palestine from about 900 B.C. onward, but they were only one of a myriad of peoples who lived in the Fertile Crescent area. For the Jews to portray themselves as an exclusive, significant and powerful people in ancient Palestine is a gross distortion of historical fact. Jewish power and influence flowered in Europe, not in the Middle East.
Nor do the Jews have a just claim to Palestine. There is no justice in asking Arabs to pay the price for the atrocities committed by Europeans. Furthermore, to continually hold the specter of World War II before the American public is not a plea for justice, but only cheap emotional blackmail.”
