JEWISH COLONIES IN PALESTINE OCCUPIED BY BRITISH TROOPS
Associated Press

Transcribed from the clipping
“A group of Moslems, Christians and Jews waited upon the president of the Syrian state and protested against the situation of the non-Zionist population of Palestine… The Jewish survivors of the Hebron colony, where 15 American students at the Rabbinical College were killed, were uneasy… Many Jews were disarmed and arrested, the military authorities making no distinction between Arabs and Jews.”
Context added by this archive
August 1929. The archive holds six American papers from this fortnight, in six registers: a Mississippi daily, a Texas daily’s map, a Communist photo spread, a Jewish weekly’s front page, a Virginia column of wire datelines, and a Buffalo weekly a week later. It also carries a fourth version of the formula that names the majority by subtraction — the non-Zionist population, twice — after Herzl’s non-Jewish population, Balfour’s non-Jewish communities and King–Crane’s non-Jewish inhabitants. And it gives the number of Americans killed at Hebron.
