JERUSALEM, Dec. 17 (Jewish Telegraphic Agency).—Evidence purporting to show that Arabs themselves had been exploiting and defrauding Arab landowners was presented at today’s session of the Inquiry Commission’s hearing by Charles Passman, former general manager of the American Zion Commonwealth. Mr. Maughanam, the Arab counsel, attempted to get Mr.

Passman to admit that the American Zion Commonwealth had inadequately compensated Arab tenants in driving them off their paternal lands. Sir Boyd Merriman, counsel for the Jews, in answer, got Mr. Passman to state that the Bedouins of Jedrow had been prevented from getting off their land by an agreement they signed in 1925 with the Arab Dagni of Jaffa.

By the agreement Dagni is said to have promised to obtain for them land rights at Domney if they would give him 50 per cent commission and agree to forfeit $1,500 each if they dealt directly with the Jewish land company. Having obtained this agreement Dagni then tried to sell it to him, said Mr. Passman. Mr.

Maughanam then pointed out that these same Arabs, for driving off Jewish plowmen in 1925, had been arrested and imprisoned, and remarked that “is how the Jews get their pound of flesh—by force.”

The Arab attorney presented figures to show that the terms offered by the Jews to Arab land owners were so harsh that the Arabs could not accept them and theferore took cash instead. Chairman Shaw then inquired: “Why was this not brought up in the land court at the proper time?”

Read from the scan by a machine looking at the image of the page, not by optical character recognition and not by a person. The clipping carries no masthead or date line, so its date and newspaper rest on the record it arrived with, not on anything visible in the scan.

Date check: No masthead and no date line appear on this clipping — it is a trimmed single column with a rule at the foot. The dateline reads "JERUSALEM, Dec. 17 (Jewish Telegraphic Agency).", one day before the slide date of 1929-12-18, which is the normal gap for a cabled story. The year cannot be verified from the image.
