“The British Government’s refusal to push through the House of Commons immediately such an important proposal as that for the partition of Palestine, as outlined by the British Royal Commission, merits thoughtful commendation… The fact that ultimate jurisdiction over Palestine affairs remains vested in the League does not prevent some British officials from insisting on the right of Britain as mandatory nation to divide the Holy Land between the Jews who consider it their national homeland and the Arabs who, with the Turks, have held sway there for 1500 years… Nor is there much hope that the final League and Commons actions will segregate the 400,000 Jews and 1,000,000 Arabs in contiguous sections of a land both claim, in anything like settled peace, at least for a long time to come.”
