JERUSALEM, Nov. 30 (INS). Arabs killed at least 10 Jews in the tense Holy Land Sunday amid growing fears that full-scale Arab-Jewish fighting may explode before the formal birth of the new Judea. The Arab Higher Committee ordered a three-day general strike beginning Tuesday to protest the U. N. decision to partition the Holy Land.

The order also called for a complete boycott of Jews. Arabs dealing with Jews will be listed as “traitors.” The first violent Arab reaction to the United Nations’ partition vote was accompanied by Arab threats of a “Holy War” and massacres of Jews in the fight to keep Palestine for the Arabs. Calm Is Urged.

Dispatches reaching Jerusalem said spokesmen for the Arab government of Iraq and Lebanon will help prevent execution of the U. N. partition decision. The Iraq government had to issue a special communique urging the population to remain calm. Premier Riad El Solh of Lebanon said the Lebanese and Syrian armies are “ready for action.”

Bellicose announcements of support for Palestine Arabs came from neighboring Arab states where strikes and demonstrations broke out in protest against the U. N. decision. The preliminary Arab attacks were carried out in scattered parts of the Holy Land. Casualties Suffered.

At the Acre Prison, Arab inmates fell upon Jewish prisoners exercising in the yards but were driven off by police and guards who were forced to open fire. The attacking prisoners suffered several casualties but none of the Jews was hurt seriously. Five Jews were killed and 11 injured in Arab attacks on buses on Palestine highways.

Four other Jews were killed in the all-Arab town of Ramleh, near Tel Aviv. The bullet-riddled body of a 35-year-old Jew was found near the Jaffa police headquarters. Arab families living in or adjacent to predominantly Jewish districts in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and other centers began moving in fear that bloody communal clashes may develop.

The exodus is expected to gain momentum during the week.

How this transcription was made

This scan is a newspaper page carrying TWO complete articles side by side, and the archive holds a record for each. This record transcribes the right-hand story, “Arabs Begin ‘War;’ 10 Jews Slain”, an International News Service dispatch from Jerusalem. The left-hand story under the page’s main headline, “ARABS ‘WILL FIGHT’ U. N. PALESTINE PLAN”, an Associated Press dispatch from Cairo, is a separate record, o471201fortworth. Both records show the whole page as it was printed rather than a crop of half of it, so the archive’s claim that every record is a photograph of the page its story ran on stays true; the cost is that the same photograph appears twice under two ids. A third, unrelated column is trimmed to a few words a line down the right edge of the scan and is not identified in either record.
