Americans disagree with U.N. on Zionism as racism

“A 49-9 per cent plurality of the American people disapproves of the recent United Nations resolution proclaiming that ‘Zionism is racism and a form of racial prejudice.’
However, a significantly high 42 per cent either are not sure of how they feel about the issue or simply have not followed the event… A 66-12 per cent majority of the college educated disapproved, as does an even higher 70-8 per cent majority of professional people… On a straight-out sympathy question between the Israelis and the Arabs, the margin is now eight to one pro-Israel, which had dropped close to five to one just this past summer… The main reason that people are opposed to the U.N. action is the feeling that ‘Jewish people are entitled to have a homeland of their own.’
And no more than 9 per cent of the American people believe that ‘Zionism is racism.’”

A national poll, 1,475 adults, taken between November 22 and 29, 1975. The single largest figure in the table is 42 per cent not sure. Among those with eighth-grade schooling or less, 63 per cent were not sure; among college graduates, 22 per cent.
