“WASHINGTON — Menachem Begin, whose Likud Party won the recent Israeli elections, was speaking fact when he stated that the West Bank of the Jordan River was ‘liberated’ territory and ‘our land.’ By any reasonable reading of history, the West Bank does belong to the Jews, however convenient pundits and State Department types may find it to ignore the facts… 6.
The Jews sadly accepted the partition, but the Arabs turned it down. Egypt and Transjordan invaded Palestine.
The Egyptians were routed, holding on only to the Gaza Strip which they turned into what has been described as ‘a concentration camp for Palestinians.’… It should be remembered that the ‘legitimate aspirations’ of the Palestinians were satisfied when the British gave them two-thirds of Palestine.
If King Hussein has made them second-class citizens in Jordan, the Palestinian quarrel is with him, not with Israel.”
