Police Patrol Israeli Campus To Prevent Arab-Jewish Fight

Transcribed from the clipping
TEL AVIV, Dec. 25 (AP) — Police patrols entered the campus of Jerusalem’s Hebrew University today to prevent a recurrence of fighting between Arab and Jewish students, a police spokesman said.
The university officials asked the police to back up regular campus security authorities, who were reported to be searching anyone who entered the Mount Scopus campus for hidden weapons.
Last weekend an Arab student and a Jewish student were injured in brawls that began after Jewish students broke into an Arab student’s room in the campus dormitories after the Arab refused to lower the volume of his radio. As many as 350 people were involved in one of the fights.
Tensions have been high at the university, which has about 500 Arabs among its 15,000 students. While Arabs and Jews usually do not room together, they do share dormitories.
How this transcription was made
Transcribed from a scan of the printed page. THE YEAR RESTS ENTIRELY ON THE SLIDE LABEL. This cut carries no masthead, no running head and no folio anywhere on it, and nothing on it names the newspaper; the dateline 'TEL AVIV, Dec. 25 (AP)' fixes publication to a 26 December but not to a year. A separate check of CP-1981-025, a confirmed 26 December 1981 page in the archive, found a sibling Associated Press brief on it also datelined 'TEL AVIV, Dec. 25 (AP)', which is corroboration from another record and NOT proof from this page. That same check established that this text does not appear on CP-1981-025, so the two are not duplicates. The excerpt is the whole brief. The bare noun 'the Arab' for a person in the third paragraph is as printed. Read from crops magnified to nine times page scale.
