“Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, ever the courtly hard-liner, mixed a gentle manner with firm words on a CNN broadcast Thursday to rebuff U.S. first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton’s call for the creation of a Palestinian state in the Middle East. ‘I have a different view,’ said Netanyahu, who did not mention President Clinton’s wife by name.
He said he would never accept what he called an ‘unbridled’ state, in which the Palestinians could field an army and form military alliances, perhaps with countries such as Iran and Iraq. ‘I am opposed to a Palestinian state,’ Netanyahu said. ‘I am not opposed to the Palestinians governing themselves.’”
