“GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Israeli aircraft pounded militant targets in Gaza as rockets rained on southern Israel on Saturday, the second day of an escalation that has killed at least 24 Palestinians, including a 5-year-old girl and a senior militant… Israel said it was targeting the Islamic Jihad militant group… Hamas, the larger militant group that rules Gaza, appeared to stay on the sidelines… ‘Warned us? They warned us with rockets and we fled without taking anything,’ said Huda Shamalakh, who left her home in the border town of Beit Hanoun… The Israeli military said militants had fired around 350 rockets…”
