“JERUSALEM — The Israeli military says it investigates every killing of a Palestinian that it does not consider combat. But over the past five years, less than 1% of those investigations have ended in a prosecution… Of 248 investigations opened into the deaths of Palestinians since 2017, just two produced charges, according to data compiled by the Israeli rights group Yesh Din… The military says its system meets international standards… ‘The system is designed to whitewash,’ said Ziv Stahl of Yesh Din… The figures have taken on new significance after the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh…”
