“JERUSALEM, Oct. 27. — (AP) — While a protest against the Balfour declaration and Zionist immigration was being voiced at the first Arab women’s congress in Jerusalem, Jews in the city celebrated Simhath Thora festival. Synagogs were crowded. Arab women at the same time passed through the streets riding in 70 automobiles. A large general Arab conference begins tomorrow.”

Five sentences for the first Arab Women’s Congress ever held in Palestine. Two months after the riots of August 1929, several hundred Palestinian women convened in Jerusalem, elected an executive and drove through the city in a motorcade. The Associated Press gives the number of cars. It gives no woman’s name, no resolution and no quotation, and balances the paragraph by noting what the Jews of the city were doing that day. The paper’s spellings, Synagogs and Simhath Thora, are kept.
