Transcribed from the clipping

“In a wadi (ravine) near the ancient village of Kafar Kasim, where Israeli Arabs live in a manner unchanged by time, the police were examining a spot where marauders had dragged a villager from his home. They broke his legs and beat him when he declined to tell where he had hidden his money.”

Context added by this archive

Two things are in this clipping and both of them arrive six years early. It is the first time an American paper in this archive uses

Israeli Arab to name a person rather than a war, and the village it is standing in is

Kafr Qasim — six years and three months before Israeli border police shot forty-eight of its people at a curfew they had not been told about. Lower in the same column, Inspector General Yehezkiel Sahar denies “reports published here and abroad that captured infiltrators had been maltreated and, in some cases, tortured.”

A denial of reports already published is not the start of a record. It is a reply to one.
